KMCNews – Partai Bulan Bintang (PBB) adalah sebuah partai politik Indonesia yang berasaskan Islam berdiri pada tanggal 17 Juli 1998 di Jakarta dan dideklarasikan pada hari Jumat tanggal 26 Juli 1998 di halaman Masjid Al-Azhar Kemayoran Baru Jakarta.

Partai Bulan Bintang didirikan dan didukung oleh ormas-ormas Islam tingkat Nasional yaitu Dewan Dakwah Islamiyah Indonesia (DDII), Ikatan Cendekiawan Muslim Indonesia (ICMI), Badan Koordinasi dan Silaturahmi Pondok Pesantren Indonesia (BKSPPI), Forum Ukhuwah Islamiyah (FUI), Forum Silaturahmi Ulama, Habaib dan Tokoh Masyarakat (FSUHTM), Persatuan Islam (PERSIS), Partai Serikat Islam Indonesia (PSII), Persatuan Umat Islam (PUI), Perti, Al-Irsyad, Komite untuk Solidaritas Dunia Islam (KISDI), Persatuan Pekerja Muslim Indonesia (PPMI), Lembaga Hikmah, Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam Indonesia (HMI), Pelajar Islam Indonesia (PII), Gerakan Pemuda Islam (GPI), KB-PII, KB-GPI, Hidayatullah, Asyafiiyah, Badan Koordinasi Pemuda & Remaja Masjid Indonesia (BKPRMI), Badan Koordinasi Muballigh Indonesia (Bakomubin),Wanita Islam, Ikatan Keluarga Masjid Indonesia (IKMI), Ittihadul Mubalighin, Forum Antar Kampus dan Lembaga Penelitian Pengkajian Islam (LPPI). Berbagai ormas ini bergabung didalam Badan Koordinasi Umat Islam (BKUI) yang didirikan pada tanggal 12 Mei 1998. BKUI merupakan pelanjut dari Forum Ukhuwah Islamiyah (FUI) yang didirikan pada tanggal 1 Agustus 1989 oleh Pemimpin Partai Masyumi yaitu DR.H. Mohammad Natsir, Prof.DR.HM. Rasyidi, KH. Maskur, KH. Rusli Abdul Wahid, KH. Noer Ali, DR. Anwar Harjono, H. Yunan Nasution, KH. Hasan Basri dan lain-lain.

Pada awal berdirinya PBB diketuai oleh Prof.DR. Yusril Ihza Mahendra, SH,MSc tokoh reformasi yang menjadi arsitek berhentinya Soeharto dari jabatan Presiden RI ketika reformasi bergulir dan juga sebagai tokoh yang mempelopori Amandemen Konstitusi Pasca reformasi ditengah tuntutan Federalisme dari berbagai tokoh reformasi ketika itu dan pernah pula menjadi Menteri Hukum dan Hak Azasi Manusia dan Menteri Sekretaris Negara.

Sedangkan DR. H.MS. Kaban diangkat sebagai Sekretaris Jendral, tokoh HMI yang sangat disegani dan pernah menjabat sebagai Menteri Kehutanan yang juga dikenal tanpa kompromi dengan para cukong kayu dan perambah hutan Indonesia.

Berikutnya MS Kaban dipilih sebagai Ketua Umum PBB pada tanggal 1 Mei 2005 dan Drs.H. Sahar L. Hasan sebagai Sekjen. Sejak Muktamar ke-3, April 2010, di Medan partai ini telah menetapkan kembali DR.H.MS Kaban sebagai Ketua Umum dan Prof. Dr. Yusril Ihza Mahendra, SH., M.Sc. sebagai Ketua Majelis Syuro dan BM Wibowo,SE., MM., mantan Sekretaris Jenderal Organisasi Massa Islam Hidayatullah, sebagai Sekretaris Jenderal.

Partai Bulan Bintang sejak reformasi telah menjadi peserta pemilu dan telah mengikuti Pemilu tahun 1999, 2004 dan Pemilu tahun 2009. Pada Pemilu tahun 1999, Partai Bulan Bintang mempu meraih 2.050.000 suara atau sekitar 2% dan meraih 13 kursi DPR RI. Sementara pada Pemilu 2004 memenangkan suara sebesar 2.970.487 pemilih (2,62%) dan mendapatkan 11 kursi di DPR.

Dalam Pemilihan Umum Anggota Legislatif 2009, PBB memeroleh suara sekitar 1,8 juta yang setara dengan 1,7% dan dengan system parliamentary threshold 2,5% sehingga berakibat hilangnya wakil PBB di DPR RI, meski di beberapa daerah pemilihan beberapa calon anggota DPR RI yang diajukan mendapatkan dukungan suara rakyat dan memenuhi persyaratan untuk ditetapkan sebagai Anggota DPR RI. Namun PBB masih memiliki sekitar 400 Anggota DPRD baik di tingkat Propinsi maupun Kabupaten/Kota di seluruh Indonesia.
